Árboles de Machu Picchu Cusco – Perú

  • April, 2014

On behalf of our Peruvian colleagues (Luis, Abel, Gloria, Jim, Efraín e Isau), Professor Oliver Phillips would like to announce the release of a new publication: “Árboles de Machu Picchu Cusco – Perú”. Details can be found on the RAINFOR Facebook page here

This book is an important RAINFOR contribution to botanical knowledge and conservation planning in Peru. The Machu Picchu Sanctuary is one of the most important protected areas in the world, with an exceptionally biologically rich cloud forest in addition to the world-famous archaeological ruins of an Incan city.

This publication identifies the 100 most common species at the Sanctuary, along with a description in Spanish and English of each of them, accompanied with a photo in colour. It also catalogues 332 species of trees, tree ferns and palms, with a reference to which herbarium they have been deposited at.
