Campaign to install two permanent plots in Yanachaga Chemillen National Park during the months of March and April 2014

For two weeks from 14 to 29 March 2014, 8 RAINFOR researchers and Missouri Botanical Garden - Peru, led by biologist Abel Monteagudo M, accompanied by R. Vasquez M., V. Chama M., N. Pallqui C., Y. Huillca A., D. Bellota T., J. Shareva M. & J. Flores Sh., installed a permanent plot of 1.0-ha, ca. to 2700 m. Trees were tagged, measured and 553 individuals consisting of trees, palms and ferns were collected.

Later, during 15 days from 4 to 18 April 2014, another permanent plot of 1.0-ha, at 1818m was measured. The plot was in the Tunqui-Cajonpata sector, within the Yanachaga Chemillen National Park in a primary Pre Mountain Sub Tropical forest. All trees were measured, and 514 individualtrees, ferns and palms were tagged and collected.

These last two plots are fundamental to the study of the dynamics of montane forests in the Central Forest of Peru, in addition to completing the information, knowledge and floristic taxonomic tree across the altitudinal gradient. Over the coming months the collections will be identified, assembled, labeled and deposited at the Herbarium HOXA City Oxapampa - Pasco - Peru.
